Street Stock Rules for 2009
(Revised 12/31/2008)

DISCLAIMER:  The rules and/or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events.  These rules shall govern the condition of all events, and by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules. NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATIONS OF OR COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES AND OR REGULATIONS.  They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator or official. 

The race director shall be empowered to permit reasonable and appropriate deviation from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that in his/her opinion do not alter the minimum acceptable requirements.  NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM SUCH ALTERATION OF SPECIFICATIONS.  Any interpretation or deviation of these rules is left to the discretion of the officials.  Their decision is final.

1.  DRIVER AGE REQUIREMENT
Driver registration is open to persons 16 years of age or older.   Age requirements are subject to change.   All drivers who are less than 18 years of age must have all required releases and waivers on file at L A Raceway.  (New releases and waivers must be filed each year)

2.  DRIVER SAFETY EQUIPMENT

Drivers must wear fire retardant suit (minimum 1 layer SFI-5 rating) , shoes, gloves, socks and neck brace.  Nylon or vinyl shoes are not allowed.   Full face helmets with a face shield are mandatory and must be SNELL SA 2000 or newer certification.  Arm restraints OR window net is required. The top of all roll cages must be a minimum of 2 inches higher than the top of the driver's helmet while the driver is seated in a normal driving position.  Driver's restraint must, at a minimum, be composed of 3 inch shoulder belts, 3 inch lap belt with a metal to metal quick release mechanism and a 2 inch crotch strap.  Restraint equipment must have the rating tag/label intact, may not be over 2 years old and must be in good condition.  Shoulder belts should be attached to the frame or roll cage at a point below the driver's shoulder height.  A racing seat manufactured specifically for the intended racing purpose is required and must be securely bolted to the frame.  No fiberglass seats are allowed.  A padded, energy absorbing head rest and roll cage padding around cranial area is recommended.

3.  CAR SAFETY EQUIPMENT

Must have well sealed firewalls, rear firewalls and floorboards.  Fuel cells must be mounted by at least two steel straps 2 inch wide around the cell and located in trunk area. Arm restraints OR window net with quick disconnect system is mandatory.  No electric fuel pumps.  Drive shaft loop is required and must be constructed of at least 1/4 inch by 2 inch steel or equivalent no more than 6 inch back from front of drive shaft.  Drive shafts must be painted white.  Must have a kill switch located window height behind the driver's seat.  This switch must disconnect the positive line from the battery.  Batteries must be securely mounted and safety covered if located inside of an open cockpit area.  Must have a tow hook strong enough to support the car's weight, attached to chassis and readily accessible.  No oil, water or transmission coolers are allowed inside driver's compartment.  Must have working fire extinguisher safely located in the cockpit area and be both reachable and removable while driver is still strapped in.  Exhaust must be mounted in such a way as to direct spent gasses away from the cockpit and away from areas of possible fuel spillage.  Fuel lines should  run inside the frame area and under the floorboard metal, but if fuel lines are through cockpit it must be in steel tubing from behind rear firewall to in front of front firewall.  Braided fuel lines are highly recommended.    Radiator overflow tube must be located between frame rails and directed downward or into overflow jug.


4.
    BODY/FRAME/STEERING

A)  All body parts must be steel.  Aluminum allowed for "hole fillers".  No ground effects. Measured with straight edge across bottom of frame rails.

B)   Rear of car must have fender wells and steel trunk floor.  Trunk floor may be notched out for fuel cell, but must remain to within 2 inches of fuel cell. If  fuel cell is below trunk floor it must be covered with metal pan.

C)   Passenger side may be covered and cockpit enclosed.  If passenger side is covered and cockpit is enclosed, trunk floor and fender wells are not required.

D)   Wheelbase must be 107 inch minimum both sides. NO TOLERANCE! Measured from center of lower ball joint to center of rear axle.

E)   No Corvettes.   No Camaros newer than 1981.   No station wagons or trucks.

F)   Must retain full stock bumpers front and rear not to exceed outside of tire tread, and edged will be rounded and smooth.  May be of tubular type if covered by body.

G)   Hood must clear air cleaner.  Any hole for air cleaner must be covered completely.  No ram air.

H)   Must retain stock steering box in stock location.  Quick steering may be added only if it is professionally manufactured.

I)    Front of car must be stock appearing.  No wedge noses. 

J)    Car & Driver must weigh 3100 lbs AFTER RACE!   

K)   Must retain original roof line with no more than 5 inch drop from highest point to lowest point at front. Window opening must be a minimum of 12 vertical inches on both sides at center of window.

L)    Brake, throttle, and clutch pedals must remain in stock location.

 

5.  ROLL CAGE/BRACES

A)   Must be 4 post cage with rear and front brace loops.  Loops must be the width of the frame with a maximum of 2 horizontal and 2 vertical bars behind front bumper.

B)   There must be a minimum 4 side door bars on the driver's side.

C)   All of the cage tubing must be a minimum of 1 1/2  inch OD and minimum .093 wall thickness.

D)   If the fuel cell protrudes below trunk floor, a loop must be installed behind it lower than cell attached frame rail to frame rail and braced.  Exposed cells will be in metal can.

E)   Each cage must have guard bars centered in front of driver's face.  If constructed of tubing, there must be at least 3 bars with a maximum 4 inches  between centerlines and must be a minimum of 3/8 inch OD.  If constructed from solid bar, there must be 4 bars with a minimum of 3 inches between centerlines and must be a minimum of 1/4 inch OD.  All of the bars must be welded in place.

F)  The top of all roll cages must be a minimum of 2 inches higher than the top of the driver's helmet while the driver is seated in a normal driving position

6.  TIRES/WHEELS

A)   Maximum tire sizes allowed:  275-60/15 or 255-70/15.  DOT approved. Must be street legal. Also allowed is the G60 KK-704 McCreary American Racer or IMCA stamped G60 Hoosier..

B)   No truck, RV or mud and snow tire.  No recaps.

C)   Tires may be siped and grooved.

D)   Steel wheels only with maximum 8 inch bead width.

E)   One bead lock allowed on right rear only.  Cover or mud plug RR only.

F)    No bleed-off valves.

 

7.  SUSPENSION/BRAKES

A)   All suspension components must retain stock location on chassis.

B)   Shocks must be stock appearing, steel, and rubber or urethane bushed.  No rod ends.

C)   Springs must be stock appearing and rear coils 5 inch min.  No monoleafs or plastic.  Coils must be tethered.

D)   No panhard bars. No lift or pull bars.  Control arms must be O.E.M. stamped steel.  Front upper A Frames may be tubular non adjustable all steel. 

E)    No weight jacking type of devices allowed. No adjustable leaf spring shackles. No adjustable lowering blocks.

F)    Ball joints must be stock type, may be heavy duty and reinforced with a strap welded across arm to help keep them in.

G)    Dual master cylinders with front-rear bias allowed.  Rear drums may  be replaced by disc , provided they are o.e.m. type components. Single piston cast iron O.E.M. calipers on all four wheels only.

H)   Brakes must operate on all 4 wheels and no shut off or adjustable valves allowed.

 

8.  TRANSMISSIONS/CLUTCHES/THIRD MEMBER

A)    Transmission must be O.E.M. with all forward and reverse gears functional.

B)    No aluminum flywheel, mini-clutch, coupler, or in and out box allowed.

C)    No after market clutches.  Automatics must operate with factory torque converters.  No down-sized torque converters.

D)    Car must start and move under it's own power.

E)    9 inch Ford or Floater rear ends allowed in any car, but must mount in stock location.

F)     No quick change rear end.

G)     No aluminum drive shafts, and drive shaft must be same diameter as O.E.M.

H)    Rear end may be locked.  Mini-spool is allowed.

I)      No torque dividing differentials.

 

9.  ENGINES

A)    Engine make must match body make: i.e., Ford to Ford, GM to GM, etc

B)    Engine #1 spark plug no farther back than center of ball joint.  Solid motor mounts may be used. 

C)    Cast iron blocks and heads only.  Aluminum intakes allowed.

D)    Manual fuel pumps in stock location only.

E)    Wet sump oil pumps only.   After market pans ok. 

F)    O.E.M. type  distributors only. No multi spark ignition components. No traction control of any kind.

G)    Factory O.E.M. 2 barrel carburetors or Holley 500 2 barrel carburetors only. No aerosol  or annular discharge carburetors.   Bores not to exceed 1 11/16 inch.  Choke horns may be removed, linkage may be altered, springs may be changed, jets may be changed, and one spacer under carburetor up to 2 inches will be allowed.  After market air filter allowed.

H)    Racing tube type exhaust headers are allowed.  Mufflers required.

I)      O.E.M .type ignition components only except coil, plug wires, and plugs. No multi spark components.

J)     Factory O.E.M. type water pump must be used and any other coolant system components can be after-market or modified to suit your needs.

K)    Valve covers may be modified or after-market valve covers may be used.

L)    If you do not see anything you want to do covered in "A thru K" above, don't do it.

 

10.  FUEL/FUEL CELL

A)    Pump gasoline or racing gas only.  No alcohol or performance enhancing additives of any kind allowed.

B)    Fuel cells will be a racing type bladder with a tip over valve or check ball type valve installed on any vent to or on the fuel cell.

C)    If bottom of fuel cell bladder is not completely protected by trunk floor, it will be enclosed in a steel container.

D)    No fuel cells larger than 22 gallons.
