LAMONTE, Mo. – The A Modified feature event got off to a very rocky start as cars went five-wide down the front stretch with a red flag condition coming over the field as cars tagged the wall.
Curt Potter, Aaron Poe and Christopher Moon were unable to continue on while Donnie Fellers and Dean Wille tagged the tail of the field to attempt to drive themselves back to the front.
Mark Dotson and Ed Griggs started the pack once again as Griggs headed straight down pit lane taking his car to the trailer and calling it a night.
Dotson got the lead with Mickey Burrell, Nathan Vaughn, Terry Kirk and James McMillin. Chad Staus headed to the pits on lap four and Ralph King spun at the entrance to pit lane bringing out a caution. Both finished for the night.
When racing resumed, Dotson got busy leading the field of cars. Burrell, Vaughn and Kirk holding steady. Tyler Schmidt had worked his way into fifth and Terry Schultz moved into sixth after starting eleventh.
Schmidt took fourth from Kirk on lap seven. Another caution sent Fellers to the pits after two spins and Steve Potter took his racer back to the trailer as well. Both Schultz and Kirk used the restart to their advantage moving in from on Schmidt.
As the laps winded down, Dotson stretched his lead over the field. Out of nowhere, Scott Allen came charging through the pack from twelfth starting position. The field got bunched back up with seven laps left from a caution flag. Allen began charging again. He moved into fourth on lap 15, but Kirk fought back. One lap later, they both moved in front of Vaughn moving him back to fifth with Schultz right on his tail.
Schultz took fifth on lap 17. With the white flag in sights, Kirk took second from Burrell and then headed straight to the pits before the checkered flag.
Dotson took the win in the Pitts Homes of Warsaw A Modified feature event with Schultz making a very last minute, hard-charging run to second on the final lap from fourth place. Allen followed Schultz to third, Burrell took fourth and Nathan Vaughn picked up fifth place. Wille had worked his way back through the pack but missed the top five by one spot. Wille was later disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct.
In the Xtreme Motors Street Stock feature event, John Brooks and Marc Carter started on the front row with Scott Krause and Ted Welschmeyer in the second row. Carter quickly jumped to the lead with Brooks, Krause and Welschmeyer in the top four coming out of turn two on the first. Welschmeyer took third from Krause by the completion of lap one and then moved into second by the end of lap two in front of Brooks.
Krause picked up on the throttle on lap five and moved into third seeking the second-place spot from Welschmeyer. Two cautions bunched the field back up and the battle between Krause and Welschmeyer heated up.
Krause took second from Welschmeyer and one lap later took the lead from Carter. With five laps left, Welschmeyer took second from Carter and set his sights on Krause.
It looked as if Welschmeyer was going to take the lead from Krause, but his attempt failed. Krause picked up the feature win with Welschmeyer, Carter, Brooks and Kevin Perkins rounding out the top five.
Colt Cheevers, Luke Skidmore and Mitchell Moore are no strangers to the winner’s circle as they all picked up another feature win and added to their point’s battle for the season championship.
Stephen Muilenburg and Chris Brockway started on the pole in the Pitts Homes of Warsaw B Modified feature event. Colt Cheevers and Billy Bentley started in row two.
On the first start of the feature, Muilenburg jumped the start and was sent directly to the tail. The class was warned about the action in the driver’s meeting prior to the start of the night’s racing. This moved Cheevers to the pole position.
Two more complete restarts took three more cars out of the field and sent them to the trailer. Cheevers took the lead with Brockway and Bentley in the top three. Another caution sent Darin Claxton to the work area. He was able to return and went from fourth place to tailback on the field.
Three more cautions made the race seem very long, but once the field of cars got moving the cautions slowed to a minimum. Cheevers lead the field of cars with Muilenburg using the restarts to his advantage moving himself into second in front of Brockway and Josh Calvert. The next caution gave Brockway the advantage to move into second momentarily before Muilenburg fought back.
Cheevers took the feature win with Muilenburg, Brockway, Calvert and Steve Bugg finishing in the top five honors for the evening’s event.
With just two cautions in the Jim’s Tire Service Hobby Stocks, Luke Skidmore picked up another feature win in his near perfect season. Michael Tyler was running solidly in second place until he had to head to the work area with only two laps left to finish the race.
John Simpson picked up second in the feature with Danny Crum, Mark Harrison and Tyler making the last lap charge from tailback on the field.
In the Gill Signs/Specialty Sportswear 305 Sprint feature event, Mitchell Moore and Austin Alumbaugh started on the pole. The battle was on from the drop of the green, but Moore came out with the lead. Ryan Schlender settled into third with Lacy Harrison holding off the rest of the pack for fourth.
Schlender made attempts to take second from Alumbuagh but was unsuccessful. Andrew Turley took fourth from Harrison on lap six and Haley Arnold took fifth from Harrison one lap later. The rest was history as Moore drove steadily to the finish line. Alumbaugh, Schlender, Turley and Arnold finished in the top five.
